Wells' ending doesn't translate well to the movie, but otherwise gripping and well done.

Stunning visually, and overall a great film if you can get past quibbles over the acting.

Depressing 2 hour genocide with deus-ex machina ending. Nothing was learned, no takeway

Hackneyed family stuff and dated CGI, but still great fun and pretty dark for Spielberg

A very flawed movie that works thanks to Spielberg's confident direction.

Another great thriller from Spielberg. The actors portray a great sense of fear and panic.

Though the ending is uninteresting, War of the Worlds is suspenseful and action-packed.

When Spielberg misses, it's a big one. When Cruise does, it's routine at this point.

I don't get the hatred for this movie. It's focus on normal people in crisis is refreshing
